Why a crash course and not hourly driving lessons?
There’s a few advantages of taking an intensive driving course over traditional hourly driving lessons:
- Pass your driving test faster.
- Book in bigger blocks over evenings and weekends.
- Gain momentum as you get further into the crash course so reinforce your learning.
Perhaps you’re starting a new job in Bournemouth which requires you to have a driving license, or are starting Poole College and don’t want to take the bus. Maybe you just like to get stuff done and out the way.
If you’re a busy person and don’t have a lot of time, block booking the crash course lessons means you can get more hours under your (seat)belt. These can be booked for as many or as little as you like.

What does the ‘intensive’ in intensive driving course actually mean?
Well, it means whatever you want it to mean. It all depends on your ability to concentrate and your commitment to passing your driving test. We’d always recommend a driving block of 4 hours as this will allow you to gain the momentum to see improvements, however if you’d only like to do 3 or are quite happy smashing out 6 hours then that’s completely up to you.
But how do you know how many hours I need in my intensive driving course?
We will do an assessment driving lesson. We’ll pick you up from wherever you are in Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch and have a 1-2 hour lesson. This will give us a good indicator of your current level.
From this we’ll know roughly how many hours you’ll need to pass, then it’s up to you over how many crash course driving blocks you’d like. For example, your driving instructor may recommend 30 hours. These can be taken in 10 x 3 hour driving blocks, 6 x 5 hour driving blocks etc.

The structure of the intensive driving course in the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area – what will you learn?
We base the driving course on 3 stages, each increasing in skill and difficulty. Once the learner completes the basic skills they will then move on to the harder components of driving. If you’re a novice driver then the assessment driving lesson will give us an idea of where you are in your journey. By the end of the course you will be competent in the following:
Stage 1: You will be confident with…
1. Car controls and components
2. Moving off & braking
3. Safe approach and turning at junctions
Stage 2: Manouvres
1. Hill starting
2. Reversing around a corner
3. Reverse parking into a bay
4. Turning in the road
5. More difficult junctions and turns
Stage 3: The final stages
1. Emergency stopping
2. Dual carriageway driving
3. Mock practical test under exam conditions
The driving test can be taken at the local Bournemouth test centre, or other centres if there are shorter waiting times. We won’t recommend you take a test until you’re ready and we’re both confident you’ll pass.
Beginners Intensive Driving Course: And the price of the intensive driving course?
The beginners intensive driving courses in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are only £695. This includes the test fees, free pass plus modules and other benefits listed in the bullet points at the top of this page. The course is based on 25 hours, which based on 35 years of experience is the absolute minimum amount of driving lessons you’ll need to pass your driving test.. It may be that you require more hours and that’s OK, but there’s little point in taking 40 hours straight away if you may not need it.
Novice intensive driving course information:
If the learner has had previous driving lessons, the crash course will focus on those areas which need most improvement to get them ready for the driving test. The driving course will be tailored specifically for the learner driver’s requirements. Again, this is done through an assessment driving lesson.
It is hard to say how many driving hours will be required. Usually we would take you out for a lesson to gauge this, then book accordingly. If you have had previous lessons it is best to call us on 01202 751919 to discuss your previous experience.
Here’s what our pupils say about the intensive driving course…
Steve is truly the go to driver instructor. He’s very reliable, always on time, very patient, and polite. I done 25 hrs intensive course with Steve, spaced out in 4 days. He left 6 hrs so I could practice on the day of my test too, which was a big help! we started at 8am and finished at 3pm on each day. We had a 20 min break at about 11, then a hours lunch break at 12. He would let me go home for the lunch break, and picked me up after. The breaks really helped me to re focus on driving and is much needed when your driving all day. I had a bad experience with a driving instructor before and Steve really helped me get my confidence back and put me at ease. I passed first time with the help of Steve and I never would of been able to do it without him 😊 I highly recommend Steve. So happy I passed first time, thank you thank you 😊 – Gemma Pennington
